Queensboro Bridge Open for AM Commute After Truck Fire


qbbA truck carrying oxygen and nitrogen tanks caught fire as it approached the ramp to the Queensboro Bridge, causing some of the cargo to explode and forcing authorities to shut down the upper level of the span for a time Sunday evening, according to the FDNY.

No injuries were reported after the truck erupted in flames at about 7 p.m., the FDNY said.

Witnesses reported hearing loud thunderclaps and seeking intense flames and thick black smoke near the bridge.

Traffic resumed in both directions on the bridge by late Sunday.
