Rav Deri Leaves Chief Rabbinate Race

yyoIn an expected move, Beersheva Chief Rabbi Dayan Yehuda Deri on Thursday night, the eve of 12 Menachem Av 5773 informed Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita that he is leaving the Chief Rabbinate race in the hope his votes will go to Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef.

The rav notified the Gadol Hador in a letter, which he will officially submit to the Election Committee after Shabbos. Rav Deri stated “I will never run in a race competing against the candidate of Maran.”
