IDF Responds to Syrian Rocket Fire


kasAfter a number of incidents of rocket fire into the Golan Heights from Syria, the IDF on motzei Shabbos fired two Tammuz rockets at the Syrian outpost from which the rocket fire into Israel originated. Despite Syrian reports to the contrary, the IDF reports the soldiers were no operating on the Syrian side of the border. IDF officials report eight mortar rockets landed in the Golan Heights on Shabbos, 11 Elul 5773.

As the ongoing civil war continues in that country, Israel has been hit with rocket and light weapons fire, usually attributed to spill over from the battle between government and rebel forces. Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz have stated Israel has no interest in becoming involved in the warfare, but nevertheless Israel will not tolerate attacks on its soil.
