Deri: Lapid is Cruel

lapShas leader Aryeh Deri refers to Finance Minister Yair Lapid as “cruel” after the latter’s cuts in monthly child allowance payments became reality this week.

Deri described that being chareidi in Israel today is not easy, and being the leader of a party whose constituents are mostly chareidi is tenfold more difficult.

After years of political exile Deri tells Kikar Shabbos that he has been compelled to fight battles from within as well as the current battle against the chareidi tzibur at large. He used the interview to pat himself on the back for the victory achieved in the Chief Rabbinate election, the election of Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef as Rishon L’Tzion.

Regarding the “gezeiros of Lapid, they are far more severe than those of Pharaoh. Deri reminds us that “We have been here before, ten years ago with Lapid the father, Netanyahu the finance minister and the coalition with Orlev and the dati leumi. G-d willing this will end when this coalition vanishes.”

In a Tuesday interview on Kol Berama Radio, Deri told Moti Lavi that when Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita saw the headlines pertaining to the implementation of the cuts in the monthly child allowance, the Gadol Hador stated ‘עד מתי רשעים יעלוזו’.

  1. “Lapid is cruel” is an understatement. Was that the best description given to Pharaoh in Egypt who oppressed the Jews and made their lives bitter eventually stopping to provide straw forcing them to produce the full of quota of bricks and then accused them of bringing the situation upon themselvs by being lazy.

History repeating itself with Lapid acting as Pharaoh
    and then came the geulah.

PLEASE have extra kavanot at the bracha of VELAMALSHINIM, a prayer against our enemies.

  2. This is accomplishing its purpose…forcing people to go out and get jobs….. there There is nothing wrong with working and learning!!

  3. Maran Rosh HaYeshiva Shlit”a of Ramat Beit Shemesh said we must do ours ! Hashem is the only authority! We must grow in Torah and Avodah!!

  4. 1. Lapid is probably being fiscally responsible, as Israel’s welfare state is not really affordable. Israel is trying to have a welfare state similar to Scandanavia or Germany but they have an economy similar to Greece.

    2. If the hiloni ruling class did not perceive the child allowances as primarily benefitting hareidim and Arabs, they probably would not be so anxious to cut them. Bigotry rather than economics is a major factor in the cuts.

  5. In a modern high tax state, the absence of a child allowance or equivalence such as the US “personal exemption plus EITC” is extreme.
Next election Lapid will win the Ministry of Stray Animals (or “Dogcatcher” in the US).
But he is not a Pharaoh as he has not yet instituted brick quotas.

  6. We work in America. They can work in Israel. They will be better off working. This way they won’t be dependent on the government for funding. The yeshivos will be supoorted by the community. The same way it is done in America. The yeshivos will be able to teach and act the way they wish without interference. Although Lapid is not doing it lshem shomayim, we will be better off in the long run.

  7. Why is it that Americans just don’t get it?

#8 This is a repeat for the upteenth time. In Israel men cannot work before going through 3 years of army service. Since charedim cannot join such an army, working is not an option even for those who are not made to sit in kollel. Get it?
