Having gone to war to defend the right to gas Muslim civilians, Iran would get almost no sympathy for everyone – and an attack not involving ground troops would not get very messy. The worst Iran could do would be to interfere with oil exports, which would benefit the USA since the USA is now self-suffient in energy (thanks to fracking).

The problem with this theory is the Iranian leaders are fanatic Muslims, and fanatic Muslims do not consume substances that result it serious impaired judgement, and sober people tend not to have suicidal tendencies (no matter how much we hope they do).
