One of the key points to remember when evaluating the actions Of IDF soldiers on the ground is that this is, in general, an army of teenagers (for good and ill). Parents, ponder the consequences of that. My son is 20 and he's an officer!

Such young people have boundless motivation, (sometimes reckless) courage and variable levels of judgment. Many of the "dancing videos" released so far were considered minor breaches of discipline. This one was different due to the danger it presented to the soldiers taking part. That makes it a serious matter from the army's perspective.

On the other hand, it did present a glimpse of the human face of the IDF and scored positive image points from that perspective. But, if something had gone wrong, no one would be talking about how nice it looked.

Only teenagers could have that sort of, "what could go wrong" attitude and it's against that (and other teenage tendencies) that the IDF has to exert discipline. Keeping the leash at the right length and level of tautness is no easy calculation.

Lets not loose sight of the fact that all involved enjoyed themselves and each others company. Not what ideological hardliners want us to beloeve is possible. As soldiers, these guys need to be disciplined...things could have goine south. But as people, it's refreshing to see something other than mutual demonization.

Soldiers who are assigned to a certain task (patrol duties in this case) are not supposed to sneak off from work to party. It suggests a very low standard of discipline when soldiers can ignore orders and do what they feel like. And in any army, a low standard of discipline is generally a sign of more serious problems.

Whether they going a night club, or sneaking off to shul, or taking a nap, or whatever, is irrelevant. That they were having amicable relationships with the Palestinians is probably a good thing. That they were ignoring orders and avoid the job they were assigned is the only issue.

This is some of the best press for the IDF ever. This condemnation is absurd. (same with the other pop music videos soldiers got in trouble for.) Why do we only hear about this story from Jewish sources? Because the world press is ignoring it since it's OVERWHELMINGLY positive. Also, it's a gay club, kinda funny.
