For Peres, It Has Never Been About Reality

PeresTruth be said, from the perspective of President Shimon Peres, the signing of the Oslo Agreement, which led to the deaths of some 1,500 victims HY”D, has been a success. For Peres, it permitted him to become a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, led to the establishment of the lucrative Peres Peace Center and has significantly boosted the political career of the man now serving as Israel’s president.

Perhaps being over 90 permits one to say what comes to mind and get away with it, but Peres was no less brazen at the signing in 1993 than he is today as officials mark the 20th anniversary. The president told Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) that looking back today he knows the agreement was the “right decision,” one that led the nation to a “great revolution”. He did not pass an opportunity to praise PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), who he calls a genuine partner and leader.

After the countless suicide bombing attacks that were the result of Oslo, death and the thousands of maimed and injured, the uprooting of Gush Katif and the world opinion turned against Israel, Peres brazenly praises the Oslo Agreement as the nation prepares to celebrate Rosh Hashanah under a cloud of a chemical weapons attack from Syria and a growing Iranian nuclear threat.

Peres explains that there is no connection whatsoever between Oslo and the expulsion from Gush Katif and N. Shomron, or the missiles fired from Gaza into southern Israel.

  1. whereas Peres is the master politician and has been in every government since who knows when, still, Oslo was wrong from the beginning to the less illustrious demise as was foreseen by most of the less starry-eyed Israelis on the right.

It was a dream that never come true for the Left except as a nightmare that put the Left in to shock deniel.

  2. It never is about reality for leftists. Its about wishful thinking and power. Reality never enters the picture and if it ever does, its blamed on something else. They never take responsibility for anything and everyone else suffers the consequences.

  3. It is very sad to read an article a couple days before Rosh Hashana pointlessly disparaging a fellow Jew. Hopefully by judging our fellow Jews favorable Hashem will judge us favorably.

  4. #3 it’s very sad that you don’t know that a non- religious jew has a din of a goy. and the chofetz chaim paskens you can say loshon hara about them. i also find it interesting that it’s not even sadder to you that he’s not relligious.

  5. The person disconnected from reality is the author of this essay. The Oslo accords had nothing to do with the horrific conduct by the Syrian regime, which predated them and continues to this day, nor did they have anything to do with the hostility towards Israel by the Iranian regime, which predated them and continues to this day.

  6. With the death of Mrs. Peres, the sechel & chochma of the family was gone.
Peres is a dreamer and bolstered by left-wing aids, spokesmen and media. EMES has never been part of the scene.

  7. In response to Talmud student: I would appreciate if you could post the sources for the halachos you are quoting. Also I never said that I am not saddened that he is not religious however I do not believe that is grounds for sinas chinam. We all do things wrong and if we insist on judging our fellow Jews stringently than I am afraid Hashem will do the same to us.
