Some Weekend Elections Polls

votThe weekend newspapers carried polls ahead of the municipal elections set to take place around Israel on Tuesday, 18 Cheshvan 5774. The mayors of the largest cities are expected to be reelected, referring to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Maariv’s poll conducted by Magar Mochot shows Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai with 40% of the vote as compared to Nitzan Horowitz with 14%. 46% of respondents haven’t decided or are voting for other candidates.

In Yerushalayim, Mayor Nir Barkat enjoys a strong lead with 43% of the vote while the Likud/Beitenu candidate, Moshe Leon only has 13% of the vote.

Regarding the Yerushalayim race, chareidi media analysts believe if Leon can enlist the Gerrer and Belze vote he can unseat Barkat.

  1. The frum newspapers tell a very different story and expect that Leon will win by a comfortable margin, especially since the Bnei Torah candidate is expected to drop out and give his support to Leon, who has solid support from all the other chareidi groups, especially Shas, and is getting the dati leumi support, even from Bennett.

  2. Shtuyois bemitz agvaniyois (= narishkeit in tomatn zaft)! Moshe Leon most definitely does NOT have the support of the dati leumi or Bennett. In fact, Moshe Leon was proven 3 times to be lying about the support of major dati leumi rabbis who stated clearly that this was untrue and that they support Nir Barkat. Furthermore, the week Leon announced his candidacy Barkat was awarded the prestigious tzionut datit award.
