#3, the driver has an obligation to be looking out for pedestrians, and to exchange contact and insurance information in the event of an accident. And frankly, if the person who was hit called Hatzolah, they probably didn't claim to be fine when the driver asked...

Also, this article has a mistake. It says they were walking in the crosswalk - as far as I remember (and according to Google Maps satellite imagery), there is no crosswalk at that intersection.

I agree with #1 and #2. But as a Monsey resident I will add - slow down! People here drive as if every trip is an emergency. I've never seen another town where SO MANY people were SO aggressive behind the wheel. Yield when you're supposed to and come to a full stop at stop signs, and we'll be seeing less of these stories in the news.

what right did they have to call the police, if the driver himself checked up on them before he left. not as if anyway his fault if they weren't wearing reflectors.

I live just a couple of blocks from that intersection. All I can say is that I am surprised that nothing worse has happened. Monsey is waiting for a tragedy to occur! Most of the neighborhood does not have sidewalks! Everyone walks on the streets! Hardly anyone wears reflectors!..And..... almost everyone wears black...
I come home at night after dark and it is very very difficult to see pedestrians!

We b"h are all blessed with large families. To survive, we put older kids in charge of the younger kids! How many times did i stop my car because a 3 or 4 year old is in the middle of the street without her 6 or 7 year old sister who is in charge of babysitting? (I once literally picked up a 3 year old from the middle of the street..walked over to the sidewalk where it was safe.. and only after 2 or 3 minutes did the mother show up.....grabbed the kid from my hands as if I was a kidnapper)

People, we all know that hashem watches over us.. but we must do our hishtadlus !!!!!

WEAR REFLECTORS....MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS ARE WATCHED (AGE APRROPRIATELY)AT ALL TIMES!
