The “first” Thanksgiving was about a bunch of diseased criminals (facing possible horrible deaths at home as heretics and traitors) arriving as illegal immigrants, infecting the locals with horrible diseases, and then stealing their land (contrary to British law- they had been specifically told not to steal from the locals). Looking back with the benefit of hindsight, most of the natives probably should have done anything except display hesed towards those illegals (and note that both the Bushes and Obamas are among the descendants).
