Rep. Nadler on Reports of Anti-Semitism in Ukraine

nadlerToday, there are numerous reports from Ukraine that “flyers in Donetsk said all Jews who are 16 years old and above should register at the government building” and that the local Jewish population is “required to report any real estate and automobiles.”

“The reports coming out of Ukraine about anti-Semitic flyers that make chilling demands of the local Jewish community are deeply disturbing. While the details of who exactly authored and distributed these flyers are still emerging, the world must not ignore these anti-Semitic attacks,” said Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-10). “Throughout history, forced government registration of Jews and the counting of Jewish assets have led to some of the most atrocious acts in human history. If this attack is being used for political purposes, that is a particularly manipulative and callous act in a country where the Jewish community has already been subject to a rise in anti-Semitism.”

“The message for the Jewish community in Donetsk and the rest of us throughout the world is that, unfortunately, anti-Semitism is alive and well. It is also a sad reminder of the ongoing importance and blessing of having a strong homeland for the Jewish people in the State of Israel,” said Congressman Nadler.
