Brooklyn: LICH Hospital To Close Next Friday

LICH1Officials at Long Island College Hospital say the Brooklyn facility will close its doors on Friday.

That’s after a judge agreed to allow SUNY to close the hospital earlier this year, settling on sometime at the end of May.

SUNY said Long Island College Hospital stopped taking 9-1-1 ambulances on Thursday. When 9-1-1 is called, EMS will take patients by ambulance to other area hospitals.

As of Friday morning at 7 o’clock, all patients will be discharged or transferred to other local hospitals. Until then, walk-in patients to LICH will receive medical screening and stabilizing treatment.

All outpatient clinic services will close at that time.

Patients requiring their medical records should call (718) 780-4632, 4642, or 4643.

Brooklyn Health Partners had emerged as the top bidder to run the hospital, but SUNY terminated negotiations when they couldn’t come to terms on a contract.

State officials say the hospital has been losing an “unsustainable” $13 million a month.
