Rabbonim Convene in Urgent Motzei Shabbos Kenos in Haifa Following City Sponsored Chilul Shabbos

haifaRabbonim Shlita and askanim in Haifa convened an urgent motzei Shabbos kenos to address Haifa City Hall sponsored chilul Shabbos. They discussed an event that was hosted on Shabbos R”L, an event that involved significant chilul Shabbos. Efforts were made last week to reach Mayor’s Office to prevent the event from occurring but those efforts were blocked and askanim did not succeed in meeting with Mayor Yonah Yahav.

One of the options discussed was the frum city councilmen breaking from the city coalition government. They also spoke of sending a harsh letter to the mayor.

Participants in the kenos decided to release a kol korei against the chilul Shabbos with the rabbonim calling on anyone with a Jewish feeling in his heart to refrain from participating in such events on Shabbos. In addition they call on city and public officials to take steps to prevent a reoccurrence in the future.

  1. An elder relative who was one of the leading figures of Haifa mizrachi in the ’40’s and ’50’s
(he led the reciting of Tehillim on radio ,May 14 ‘48),
used publicly block transportation traveling on Shabbos

e Hwould be pulling his hair today to where DL and the state has come to..

  2. Shabbat should have zero to do with charedi vs. dati.

As per the proclaimed professions and lectures of hot air of datim,THEY due to their interaction with the larger populace
bring the state somehow closer to religion

According to that, charedim by and large should hardly care less about Haifa City Hall sponsored chilul Shabbos, while the dati, protecting halacha & religion insofar that that is how they always portray themselves, should be holding it dear.

    So where are they?!

    we see the opposite!!!!!

  3. What about when Rav Ovadia Yosef said that you cannot force a majority irreligious city to close public transportation on Shabbat? That was his P’sak as Dayan in Petach Tikva.

Do you always qouote so selectively?
    Get your facts straight!

He was referring only to chillul shabbos that was in place already

He fought hard to hold any further breaches
and he was as loudly vocal as anyone

  5. About time – how did you know?! I am a rabbi who spends my whole life helping people see the beauty of Hashem’s Torah – but exactly right, Chillul Shabbos doesn’t bother me! What planet do you come from?
