The story illustrates the effect of dogmatic arbitrary societal functions.

-dogmatic: we have a way of doing things that is not subject to change.

-arbitrary: that’s the way it is just accept it or get out

-societal: society; meaning not just here, but in jobs and in life people have social expectations that people stop having input into society’s way of doing things. Not legal, but in certain job functions, workers are not allowed to have input to make the system more efficient.

This is what they’re fighting about. It’s a problem and educated people need to fix it.
