I think i may be the choson in england referred to above. i must clarify that i listened to the advice given to me before smashing the glass and smashed the glass with my heel. The (THICK) glass was so large that the edges of the glass came round the side of the shoe and entered my foot from above. Hatzolah sorted me out straight away and i managed to dance the whole evening albeit on tiptoe. i was on crutches later that week due to infection. i did not require a tetanus shot either!! I think this is a perfect example of how stories when repeated get misconstrued and taken out of context. lesson to be learnt: always verify facts before repeating things!!!

The same happened in England just a few weeks ago. Ignoring the advise to smash the (thin) glass with his heel, the chosson used his sole and when Hatzolo couldn't help him, he landed up in hospital. I heard that he came to the seudah on crutches

You only seem to hear about this happening in Israel. I've never heard of this happening in America.
Is the minhag done differently there so that there is more exposure to the glass shards?
