1. The public dumpsters that are used in IL cost more than your little can that you put your trash in, in brooklyn.

2. I wonder why the rebbe didn’t also tel him he had to pay for the cleanup of the burned out container on the street, as well as compensate the city for the extra (police) man power that the city had to pay for to respond to the fires. I’m sure you can think up a few other out of pocket expenses incurred on the city and on private citizens as well- because of this guys actions. While he may be correct in having remorse, the rebbe should have realized that the cost of burning a few garbage cans is more than a few garbage cans.

I heard a shiur From HaRav Aaron Rakrffet , Rosh Kollel of the Gruss Kollel, I do not remember the exact details. But he said that when the Divrei Yoel, Reb Yolissh Teitlebaum, the Satmar Rebbe was visiting Eretz Yisroel. His chassidim told him that they had a wy of beating the system of certain taxes. The Divrei Yoel a known anti-Zionist and anti government of the State of Israel, would not hear of it an insisted on paying the taxes.

Yes it’s a great story. The best part is he felt regret. I do not get how the people who are staunchest to protect the holiness of the holiest city will get involved in things like dumping and burning garbage all over its holy streets, not to mention hurling invectives at the less observant who dare to pass them by. I learned never to so much as spit- or drop a piece of paper – in the streets of Yerushalayinm ir hakodesh. ….no one can ever accuse me of being under-opinionated!
