The tri-pasuk of Rav Hutner, Rav Solevitch and Rav Moshe came into existence in the late 1960s. Before those dates, Yeshiva & day schools usually had a long Thanksgiving Weekend vacation due to no busses, secular teachers not available and families going to visit relatives out of town.

NO one is saying special tefillahs, doing any particular ceremonies, showing solidarity with Pilgrims or Puritans, instead we are buying cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and Turkeys at sale price. Those who are city, state or federal workers have the day off to attend learning classes, do some leisure activities or visit relatives that live farther away. Great time to go to nursing homes, rehab centers, eat a meal with extended family and put in some extra learning hours.

The rest is just talk, talk and more talk.

Old topic, but well done

"we need some background into the halachos of following in the ways of the non-Jews. "

Jews should be more concerned about some of the practices by non-jewish funerals

Almost everything there fall under the rubric of "halachos of following in the ways of the non-Jews. "
