I guess it’s conclusive that he robbed a convenience store- molested the store owner – punched the officer in the face and tried to take away his gun.

The AP seems to be quoting propaganda. The documents released after the grand jury voted not to indict make it clear that he was a wanted criminal who was attacking the officer to avoid being arrested for his crimes. If you believe the accounts from the Democrats of “Hands up, don’t shoot” – you probably also believe that WWII started with the Polish attack on Germany.
