In a stirring speech yesterday in front of the NYPD’s 66th Precint, Councilman David G. Greenfield led a pro-NYPD rally yesterday where he exclaimed, “If you don’t love the NYPD, you are not a New Yorker. If you don’t like the NYPD, get the heck out of New York.” Greenfield reasserts his role as one of the few pro-police elected officials in New York in this truly must-watch 5 minute video below.

As background, Greenfield hosted a pro-NYPD rally yesterday that was attended by over 150 community supporters despite the pouring rain. “We are the silent majority. And the silent majority in this city – we love our police officers. We will be silent no longer. Because at times like these we must stand up and be counted,” Greenfield concluded.

  1. Remember the Viet Nam era?

    I do.

Remember “Love it or leave it?”

    I do.

Didn’t work then. In fact, it was counter-productive. It was very polarizing.

I don’t think it will be productive now.

    ———-

    What could be useful?

Condemn (and prosecute) violent actions ON BOTH SIDES.

Deal with legitimate concerns ON BOTH SIDES.

Actually, there should not be ‘sides’ … we should all be on the same side. (And it is okay to criticize the police WHEN they need it is necessary. Every major police agency has as internal investigation officer or department BECAUSE they need it!)

  2. And what was the honorable councilman’s attitude towards the NYPD when they forced a frum Yid to be mechallel Shabbos Koidesh (around Chanukah time a few years ago) by giving him a ticket (and forcing him to sign it) when he was jaywalking on Kings Highway on Shabbos Koidesh?

    Just asking…

Moderators Response: Um….he called for the officer to be suspended. here is an article we found: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/general/76751/first-report-councilman-greenfield-calls-for-suspension-of-cops-who-forced-orthodox-jew-to-violate-shabbos.html

  3. Why is YWN so busy with David G
This is the 5th article about the news conference, this is all what he is busy with, bike registration, trees donation,
How about returning phone calls to people who reach out to him

  4. You only print a comment against greenfield when you can defend him why ?

Moderators Note: See the comments here. We publish comments that can’t be defended. Unfortunately, you need to have your mouth washed out with soap before we can approve your comments Mr. “admitnothing”.

  5. Greenfield’s comment is way over the top. There are many people who have had bad experiences with the men in blue. Many motorists feel that they are unfairly ticketed by cops who are under pressure to fill quotas.

I am presently litigating a case in Federal Court; relating to false arrest, malicious prosecution (the plaintiff was found “not guilty” in criminal court) and excessive use of force, by officers of the 66th precinct.

In an unrelated matter, I am currently litigating a matter where a Sergeant of the 66th precinct forced himself into a home in Boro Park, in blatant violation of the Bill of Rights.

In sum , there are too many officers on the police force who do not belong there. Not everyone “love” all the men in blue. Too many people have justifiable grievances. Speaking out is what being a New Yorker is all about
