Otzma Yehudit Between a Rock & a Hard Place Regarding Har Habayis

hhaOtzma Yisrael on Wednesday 8 Shevat found itself between a rock and a hard place regarding negotiations to run in the upcoming elections with the Yachad party.

The party’s spiritual leader, HaGaon HaRav Meir Mazuz Shlita is opposed to visiting Har Habayis. This is a big issue for Otzma Yehudit, which is a strong supporter of permitting Jews to visit Har Habayis.

Since the parties plan to break the alignment immediately following elections, Yachad suggested that Otzma Yehudit members refrain from speaking in favor of visiting Har Habayis and visiting the holy site prior to elections.

When folks at the Temple Mount Institute found out, they explained that if the party complies, they would withdraw support for Otzma. In addition, it is reported that HaGaon HaRav Dov Lior Shlita, a leading Dati Leumi posek supporting visits to Har Habayis instructed party leader Dr. Michael Ben-Ari not to abandon his position concerning Har Habayis.

  1. Given their obsession with a minority halachic opinion that is widely reviled, and given that they have a strong interest in having a coalition dominated by the right (Likud and friends) rather than the Left (Labor and friends), they should “shut up” and vote for the parties who, from their perspective, are the lesser of two evils.
