Marijuana was the least of Barry’s problems! He was a cocaine addict convicted of a single charge of cocaine possession. (And he suffered his first and only electoral defeat in the election immediately following that conviction.)

Had he had the sense to leave office after two terms and retire to private life he would have been remembered as a good mayor.

It is rare that those laws were enforced anyway. DC voters elected Marion Barry after his conviction.

They also forced an educated Mayor out of office for using the word “niggardly” since they didn’t understand what it means and weren’t smart enough to look it up.

So much for their voting public.

Marijuana is only a gateway drug because it is illegal. It is therefore a gateway to illegal substances. In of itself, it’s actually healthier than tobacco cigarettes. Reb Moshe has a teshuva prohibiting it, though.

Not sure what you mean by gateway drug…. I’ve been smoking weed since 1999 and have yet to try any other “drugs” because of it. In fact I drink LESS alcohol since I started smoking weed! I

While limited legalization of marijuana is hardly so horrible, all studies have shown that marijuana is a “gateway” drug.

These Republicans are fools. The DC leaders didn’t change the law, its voters did in a referendum. And the Republicans could reverse that by passing a law and having Barack Obama sign it. But given that even most Republicans are sick of the Nanny State, this isn’t likely to happen.
