Paris Kosher Supermarket Where Terrorists Killed 4 Jews In January Reopened On Sunday

ftThe kosher supermarket in Paris where four Jews were killed by an Islamist terrorist, Amedy Coulibaly, last January during a hostage-taking reopened on Sunday.

The Hyper Cacher store was badly damaged in the terror attack which has deeply shocked the French Jewish community already shaken by a rise of anti-Semitism in the country. The store has been been renovated, repainted in white and restaffed. But it will keep the same name.

The market, located in the Port de Vincennes neighborhood in eastern Paris, is part of the Hyper Cacher chain of kosher markets in France and Italy.

According to Robert Ejnes, a senior director of CRIF, the umbrella group of Jewish organisations in France said the reopening of the supermarket was a sign of the resilience of France’s Jews after the trauma of the attacks.

“It shows that the Jewish community in France goes on with life,” he said. “Even though we are very affected with great sorrow for the four people who died, life must go on. We want to show that whatever happens, life wins,” he said.

Since January’s attack, which followed another terrorist attack on weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo, thousands of soldiers have been mobilized to protect Jewish sites in France, including synagogues, schools and shops.
