Gafne Explains the Discrimination Against Sephardim Must End

gafneMK Moshe Gafne was interviewed for the Yediot Achronot Shabbos magazine speaking about the party’s experience as part of the Knesset opposition during the past two years as well as his opposition to seeing Avigdor Lieberman serve as defense minister. He was also asked about discrimination against Sephardim.

When asked why litvish mosdos do not accept Sephardi girls in its schools or Sephardi boys in its yeshivos. “We are Degel Hatorah established Shas” he stated, adding “Rav Shach gave them koach and his support. Check how many dayanim, roshei yeshivos and Sephardi rabbonim there are today. There are many and we did this, Degel Hatorah”.

Gafne stated that the situation among chassidim is different. “If there are Sephardim in chassidus, there are not many and they are nothing. When asked if the ethnic demon can be eradicated, Gafne responded affirmative, stating “There is something hidden in the Ashkenazi which should be eradicated. It is not a matter of education, it is a matter of internalization. The Jewish people has grown over the centuries on the values of Sephardi Torah, on the seforim of the Rambam…the deepest meaning on the writing of the Rambam and not of others”.

Regarding the Knesset Finance Committee he added that he works quietly and that is way. He added “I am Moroccan in my neshama – I anger in a moment and then I am clamed in a moment”.

  1. MK Moshe Gafne, you are not answering the question. Why are Sefardi talmidim / talmidos not accepted into Ashkenazi mosdos?

Furthermore, what did you mean by “If there are Sephardim in chassidus, there are not many and they are nothing.” Is this a mistranslation, or you actually meant that if a Sefardi choses the Chassidische derech that turns him into nothing?
