8:55PM ET: For the second time today, a 15-year-old riding a bicycle was struck by a vehicle in the Monsey community.
The latest accident happened around 8:20PM Thursday evening on Route 59 at Bates Drive – right near Monsey Glatt.
Hatzolah of Rockland County rushed to the scene and found the boy unresponsive with serious injuries. Paramedics responded and the boy was being transported to Westchester Trauma Center.
The vehicle which struck the child remained on the scene, and Ramapo police were investigating.

On Thursday morning, YWN reported that a 15-year-old boy was struck in Spring Valley while riding his bike to Yeshiva. The boy was struck at the intersection of Myrtle and Maple Avenue at around 9:20AM. In that incident, a white Nissan Maxima struck the boy – and fled the scene. The vehicle was not yet located.

Now that the weather is getting warmer, there are scores of young boys of all ages riding bikes at top speed on both sidewalks and on the road, jumping red lights and whizzing across dangerous intersections without even looking right or left.
I get the shivers whenever these boys whiz past me.
Surely we must mount a campaign regarding educating our precious children about traffic laws and safety. It’s high time.
