IDF Officer on Educational Leave Compelled to Reimburse the IDF

idf logoAn IDF officer of the rank of major has been found guilty of unacceptable behavior and imprisoned for one month for not informing her superior officers that she was thrown out of school.

As is the case for IDF officers as they move up the ranks, the major was sent on a leave of absence to permit her to get a bachelor degree, which is paid for by the IDF. In this case she was sent to the prestigious Technion in Haifa. She did not show up for exams and as result, failed her classes, leading to her expulsion. She did not inform superior officers that she was ousted.

When she had to update superiors on her progress, she showed them an old transcript, from ten years earlier. At the end of 5773 the officer was promoted to the rank of major as a result of her progress in her studies.

After being ousted she registered in online studies at Technion, which was not approved by her superiors. She signed up for six courses in 5774 and failed them all. During this time period she was receiving a monthly salary of 11,000 NIS in addition to tuition, amounting to a gross monthly income of 15,000 NIS.

After he absence in classes and expulsion from the Technion were discovered, she was charged by the IDF prosecutor, sent to jail for 30 days and ordered to reimburse the IDF to the tune of 75,000 NIS. She is also going to face a court martial and be knocked down in rank. Needless to say her promising career has come to an abrupt end.
