Honenu Reports a Complaint was Filed Against Officer for Deleting Video of Police Brutality

mishtA protester who documented a protest claims that after he recorded police brutality a police officer deleted video clips from his camera and detained him without cause. Honenu attorney Rehavia Piltz demands that the Police Investigation Unit investigate the incident.

On Monday 5 Tammuz a protest took place near the site of the 4 Tammuz terror attack at Shaar Shechem in Jerusalem in which a border policeman was stabbed and critically injured. One of the protesters documented the protest on his camera and at a certain stage he noticed an officer beating a protester and immediately recorded the assault. The protester’s camera was taken from him by force and he was detained. After he was released and his camera returned to him he discovered that video clips had been deleted.

On Tuesday, 6 Tammuz Honenu attorney Rehavia Piltz filed a complaint with the Police Investigation Unit on behalf of the protester according to which the officer noticed that he was being filmed and therefore stopped the protester, took his camera from him by force, and “took care of it.”

“By the conduct and the acts of the policemen there is a grave concern that several severe criminal violations were committed,” wrote Piltz in the complaint which he filed, and demanded that the conduct of the officer and the other policemen be investigated, particularly the violence and the deleted video clips.
