Israelis Continue Looking for the Best Cellular Phone Deal

droidAfter Finance Minister (Kulanu) Moshe Kahlon broke the cellular telephone monopoly during his tenure as Communications Minister in the 18th Knesset, Israelis have grown accustomed to moving from one company to another in search of the best deal. Part of Kahlon’s reform permits clients to change providers while keeping the same cell number. Kahlon eliminated the red tape, the deals that locked subscribers into plans for years and the fines levied against them for daring to change providers.

According to data released, in the first quarter of 2015 a record-setting 716,666 cellular telephone subscribers changed providers. The Ministry of Communications explains it continues monitoring the cellular phone market, explaining its importance in day-to-day life compels constant monitoring to ensure the reforms set into place are not violated. The number listed in Q1 of 2015 represents a 6.3% increase in changing subscribers from Q4 of 2014 when the number was 671,234 subscribers.

There is a 15% increase in the number of subscribers changing providers compared to Q1 of 2014, with that number reported to be 626,330.

Ministry officials are pleased with the functioning of the system, permitting subscribers to change providers with relative ease.
