Feds Seek Meeting With Christie, Cuomo Over Rail Tunnels

chrisThe U.S. transportation secretary wants to meet with the governors of New Jersey and New York to discuss stalled plans for new Hudson River rail tunnels.

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx sent a letter Monday to Governors Chris Christie of New Jersey and Andrew Cuomo of New York urging them to meet with him in the next two weeks to put together a strategy for building new crossings.

The letter comes after a series of train delays for New Jersey Transit riders.

Foxx is requesting the governors discuss their states’ roles in a proposal to build new tunnels. The proposal is known as the Gateway Project.

A spokesman for Christie says he’s happy to meet with them. Cuomo’s office didn’t respond to requests for comment.
