Likud Would be Pleased to Unload the Bayit Yehudi Party

bibeAs police arrived in Beit El on Tuesday morning 12 Menachem Av in advance of razing buildings in compliance with a Supreme Court order, voices were heard from the Bayit Yehudi party that permitting such an act may result in a coalition crisis. MK Betzalel Smotrich was among the outspoken Bayit Yehudi parliamentarians, explaining if Likud permits the razing of the buildings to take place, it may lead to a crisis among coalition members, interpreted as a threat by the right-wing dati leumi party.

NRG News quotes “senior officials in Likud” responding to the Bayit Yehudi criticism on Tuesday morning stating “We would be most pleased to get rid of Bayit Yehudi from the government. They should not threaten us and it is time to stop their manipulation tactics”.

The report adds “We won’t shed a tear of they leave the cabinet. Regardless we are trying to reach a solution in the coming days regarding Beit El, something that we would do without any connection [to the statements made by] Bayit Yehudi.

It is pointed out that Bayit Yehudi leader, Minister Naftali Bennett, was not among those whose accusing voice was heard as police moved in to Beit El. The same is true for senior party member, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked.

  1. Given some of the foolish, childish, irresponsible and inflammatory statements made by some of Habayit Hayehudi’s MKs on this issue I don’t blame the Likud.

  2. With a governing coalition of 1 more than half the Knesset, Likud cannot be happy about throwing anyone out of the coalition, unless it has a replacement lined up.
