Israel: Missing Detainee Found, Suffering from Injuries

mishtAll of the protesters detained by police during confrontations in Beit El have been released except for one who was being held in the Shaar Binyamin Police Station. The protesters were demonstrating against the destruction by security forces, of the Dreinoff housing units in Beit El.

Despite the newly issued authorization for the buildings, the Supreme Court decided that the buildings should be destroyed as had been decided by the Court before the final permits were secured for the buildings. When Honenu attorney, Nati Rom inquired as to the whereabouts of those detained during the protests, the policemen initially claimed that the detainees were at the Yehuda and Shomron District Police Station in Maale Adumim and then claimed that they were at the Shaar Binyamin Police Station. Rom went to the stations and was told at both of them, that the detainees were not there.

He proceeded to the Yehuda and Shomron Division Base, and also did not find any of the detainees there. He returned to the Shaar Binyamin Police Station and was again told that there were no detainees remaining. Only after he demanded that the policemen confirm in writing that there were no detainees, did they check and find that one detainee was still in remand at the station.

The detainee told Rom that he had been beaten by police and was suffering from his injuries and said that he had not received any food since his detention in the morning.

The police are requesting a three day remand extension on two of the minors who were detained overnight in the course of clashes in Beit El. Honenu attorney Avichai Hajbi is representing the detainees, who are suspected of assaulting a police officer.
