Trump’s Call For Mass Deportations Runs Into Messy Realities

truIn one of his first forays into policy as a presidential candidate, Republican Donald Trump is calling for the deportation of all 11 million people estimated to be living in the country illegally and allowing what he calls “really good people” to return.

Such an effort may be more difficult than Trump realizes because deporting so many people means finding them first.

The government does not know the identities of many of the millions of people who have come into the country illegally or remained after their legally issued visas expired. Locating immigrants who don’t have a legal immigration status has stymied officials for decades.

Trump has dodged questions about how he would locate those he wants to deport. On Thursday, his spokeswoman declined to answer questions about that process.

  1. What’s the issue? Its the law
If you’re here illegally you should leave. On your own initially, if we have to find you then it’s a fine and jail time. I’d call it amnesty
No problem if you come forward on your own. If we have to spend time and money rounding you up, there will be consequences. I don’t see the issue. Illegals have no right to be here, enough said.

  2. I feel like Donald Trump could be bad for the Jews because he is a provocateur and doesn’t care about politicly correct so if he will be a president one day he may get up in the morning and start talking against jews. I would like to hear what people think

  3. Trump’s rabble rousing by saying something eye-catching but impossible to achieve. Jews should keep their distance from such leaders.

Moshe Eli may be right that “the law is the law .. ” but what would have happened to those WW2 refugees with false papers? Does he think they didn’t deserve to survive? Furthermore, every single square inch of the US of A was taken from someone else – first by the British, French & Spanish, then by independent USA. Illegal Mexicans in the US are exchanging one colonized country for another. Ouch!

  4. Moshe Eli: Please re-read the article. Even accepting your solution of deportation, you cannot deport someone you cannot find. And you cannot- as per the Supreme Court-stop every person in the street – and certainly not every latin looking person – and ask for identification. So, you will not find those who are here illegally. Your remedy and Trumps remedy makes no sense whatever.

  5. I understand the impossibility of the situation but we should be making an effort at getting a handle on things. First, secure the border. I’m sure terrorists have already crossed into our country. We need to root out the dangerous element among the illegals here. I reference the murder of a Ms Steinle in San Francisco
As for the reference to those coming here before, during, after WW2; I don’t see the comparison. I think there’s a difference between escaping a country for your life and leaving for a better life.

  6. The practice of deporting undocument immigrants is new. In the past deportation would only be for conviction of a felony (other than not having ones papers in order), or for becoming a public charge (going on welfare). The idea of deporting a hard working tax paying immigrant goes against the grain. Almost all Americans (Blacks and American Indians excepted) came here to work hard an dbuild a better life, which is also the case of most of the current illegals. The 20th century laws restricting immigration (which didn’t apply to Canadians or Mexicans until the late 20th century) are still perceived as having been very un-American.

Most illegals are: 1) parents of citizens; 2) spouses of citizens; 3) hard working taxpayers who often play a major role in the economy; 4) migrant laborers who are ignoring borders and aren’t planning to settle here. What’s left are a handful of professional criminals and no one objects (other than a few Democrats) to deporting them.

It might make more sense to go back to the old rule than anyone was welcome as long as they stayed out of jail and off welfare.

  7. You don’t need to ask people for ids on a street. But you can ask them for ids in the bank, at dmv, by utility companies and so on. We don’t need to catch every one but we should be a little more proactive about it.
Right now even if an illegal person gets arrested for something small they will not be deported.
