Planning to Visit Moshav Tifrach? Some Things to Know First

tifIf you are planning to spend some time in Moshav Yifrach you might want to familiarize yourself with regulations released by the mora d’asra, Rabbi Eliyahu Yaakobson Shlita. Avreichim and small girls may not ride bicycles and women may not speak on a cellular telephone in the street.

It is explained that at times, visitors coming to a Torah community are unaware of the regulations and compromised modesty is troubling to residents.

Rav Yaakobson, rav of the moshav located in southern Israel, has circulated a list of regulations intended for visitors to the community to explain what is expected of them.

It is explained that avreichim may not ride a bike and women and young girls should not speak on a cellular telephone in the street to avoid drawing attention. The same holds true for bike riding.

The letter:

We welcome guests to our moshav with open arms, those wishing to enjoy the peace and quiet the community offers. As it is known, Moshav Yifrach values the high level of modesty that exists in the street and B”H the shortcomings seen in the cities are not found here, including things that might be viewed as permissible b’dieved. Here in the moshav we strive for the ‘l’chatchila’ standard.

As such, here are a number of regulations that are adhered to in line with the rav’s request.

1. Avreichim do not ride bikes

2. Males where while shirts on Shabbos

3. Women and girls do not wear materials and clothing prohibited by the rav shlita, and they do not follow new fashion trends. They avoid attracting attention walking on the streets and they don’t speak on cellphones in the street.

4. Women and small girls do not ride bikes.

  1. is there anything shocking here other than avreichim cant ride bikes? why is this news? who cares. if you go to Tifrach respect their rules, otherwise leave them alone.

  2. Been there
    Poor and depressing place.
Can’t see why anyone would want to visit especially this week with the extreme temperature and humidity with no swimming pool

  3. Rav Yaakobson could usefully set some standards of behaviour for the country here in America but I suspect he would have to make do with bedieved bedieved if he wanted anyone to take any notice of him. What no latest fashions, what is the point of coming to the country?!

  4. Nothing new or wrong with these rules; it’s the scary tone in which they are laid down that’s off-putting to some. Why can’t things be framed in pleasant terms? The Torah and its gedarim are beautiful things, after all.
