Israel: Infant in Serious Condition Due to Dehydration Following Family Outing


mdanA family outing in the Hula Valley has left a 1-year-old girl in grave condition as a result of profound dehydration. The father is hospitalized in moderate condition.

The family, residents of southern Israel, went on a vacation trip on Monday 18 Menachem Av in the Hula Valley. The daughter and father were transported to Ziff Hospital in Tzfas as a result of dehydrating. The infant was unconscious and listed in grave condition. Her body temperature was over 42 C (107.6 F) upon arrival and her bodily organs had shut down.

The mother explained to doctors they took rest breaks and were diligent to drink water but she noticed at some point her daughter was not responsive. Then her husband explained he was not feeling well.

Chief of the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit, Dr. Yuri Viner explains the child was in cardiac arrest for a prolonged period of time in the hospital. She was given the appropriate intravenous medications to get her heart started again and she remains in the ICU, listed in grave condition and connected to a respirator and other systems to assist her body’s vital organs.
