Rabbi Berland’s Secret Rosh Hashanah Arrangements

berSince fleeing Holland there has been a cloud of mystery as to the whereabouts of Rabbi Eliezer Berland, who continues efforts to avoid extrication to Israel. However the leader of the Shuvu Banim tzibur has issued a call to his talmidim to join him, once again in South Africa. The notice promises an exact address and telephone number will follow to permit chassidim to arrange visitation. The notice was released hours before Rosh Hashanah. Facebook has been used to get the word out to the followers of the rav.

According to a MyNet report, the Rabbi released photos of Rosh Hashanah and his current location, apparently no longer interested in staying under the radar. The rav fled Israel to avoid arrest originally about 2.5 years ago and has been moving from county to country since that time. He was supposed to be extradited from Holland to Israel after losing his case and the subsequent appeal, and it was then that he managed to flee to avoid being turned over to Israeli authorities.

Since fleeing Israel the rav has been in the USA, Switzerland, Morocco, Zimbabwe, S. Africa and Holland.

  1. I’m sorry but maybe one percent of the 30,000 followers of the Rav have Facebook accounts.
So no, Facebook was not used to get the word out to followers.

  2. Yeshiva World, how do you let a comment as the first one referring to Rav Berland in such a demeaning way? Even if he wasn’t a Rav, is that a way one speaks about another yid? Why do you allow it? Does the commentator know why the Rav personally? I just don’t get why you allow certain comments too go through. What are your standards?

  3. I thought that ALL the gedolim were against using the Internet, but I guess R. Berland is either not from the Gedolim or not all of the gedolim are against the internet…
