Report: Many Schools in Modi’in Illit Lack Security

secAgreement was reached to end the public school strike in Jerusalem, a strike that was called by Mayor Nir Barkat and the city’s PTA due to the lack of security in the city’s schools. Due to the agreement, schools opened on regular schedule on Monday morning 29 Tishrei.

It is reported that this is not the situation all over. In Modi’in Illit for example, about 50% of schools do not have adequate security or any security whatsoever. According to a Kikar Shabbos News report, many schools in the chareidi city do not have any security guards, even now during the nationwide security crisis. The report adds that the Beis Chinuch School has launched a strike due to the lack of security.

The report explains that about six months ago, the city’s security department headed by Yair Kirschenbaum collected the weapons from city school principals and security officers. In addition, with the start of this new school year the city moved to a new firm to provide school protection but the new firm has yet to hire a sufficient number of guards. As a result, about half of the schools do not have a security guard.

Kikar adds that in discussions with some residents the fear among parents is evident as they are well-aware of the situation in Israel today and the fact that so many children are left without even minimal security.

City Hall explains the city’s security officer is excellent and officials deny the accuracy of the report. City officials insist there is an armed first response unit and that a significant number of schools have security guards as they should. In addition, anyone eligible who turns to the city will receive a weapon.

  1. Well, city hall of Modiin Illit fails to point out that those few schools that have a guard are in the center of town surrounded by banks or stores while those like Beis Chinuch are located literally in the middle of the nowhere, surrounded by construction sites and hundreds of arab workers ! ! Hashem is watching over all those kids but we down here also have to make our hishtadlus, it’s scary!
