London Mayor Lashes Out Against ‘Foolish’ Israel Boycotters

borThe mayor of London has lashed out against boycotters of Israel as “lefty academics” with no real influence.

Boris Johnson spoke Monday in Tel Aviv during a visit to lure Israeli tech businesses to London.

Locals are jittery as the anti-Israel campaign known as BDS — an acronym for boycott, divestment and sanctions — appears to be gaining steam. They claim that pro-Palestinian activists are not out to promote peace, but instead aim to delegitimize the country’s very existence as a Jewish state.

Johnson said, “I cannot think of anything more foolish” than to boycott “a country that when all is said and done is the only democracy in the region, the only place that has in my view a pluralist open society.”

He said the boycotters are “a very small minority.”

  1. The pro-Israel advocacy group StandWithUs posted a photograph of an Apple laptop covered with pro-Palestinian and “Boycott Israeli Goods” stickers. A hand-written note laying on top of the computer read, “Hi there! Just thought you should know the flash-storage inside this computer was designed and built by Anobit, an Israeli technology company! If you don’t want it any more, please pass it to the desk behind you.”

StandWithUs captioned the photo with, “From University of Oxford: Boycott Israel stickers on Israeli made technology—only a BDS supporter would be so foolish.”

  2. As much as we Londoners make fun of his hairstyle, we do have to thank Boris for being a good friend to the Jewish Community. I can’t imagine his predecessor Ken Livingston making those comments.
    Cheers Boris!
