NY To Minimize Highway Disruptions During Holiday

woIn a move to ease Thanksgiving holiday traffic, New York state will temporarily halt highway lane closures caused by road work.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says construction-related closures will be canceled between 6 a.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Work may still continue behind concrete barriers or when emergency repairs are needed.

The Democratic governor says the pause is intended to reduce problems for motorists during the busy travel days around the holiday.

The state says the day before Thanksgiving and the Sunday following it are typically two of the heaviest traffic days on the state Thruway system.
