Miles away from the more recognizable city of Scottsdale, Arizona is an unremarkable, abandoned ghost town known as Geronimo. The oddly-named town has been largely deserted for years, laying claim to only one major building. Despite its general state of neglect, Geronimo is about to become a household name in Jewish families worldwide.

IMG-20151125-WA0027[2]A man occupying several hundred acres of land on the outskirts of Geronimo is the owner of two female expectant donkeys. Several years ago, he was gravely suffering kidney disease; during the course of his treatment, Rabbi Ariel Shoshan of Scottsdale suggested that he purchase the donkeys, babies at the time, in hopes of fulfilling a pricelessly rare mitzvah: Pidyon Petter Chamor. Shortly thereafter, he received a kidney and is currently enjoying good health.

The animals are due to give birth imminently; should the newborns be male, they will be eligible for a truly mehudar performance of the mitzvah. The owner of the donkeys has transferred ownership to Rabbi Shoshan due to his own status as a Levi, which prevents him from performing it himself. This is being done with haskamah of Rabbi Yaakov Forchheimer.

In an effort to increase the zchus of this extraordinary occurrence, Rabbi Shoshan and his friend Neal Brooks are offering exclusive ownership shares in the donkeys to those individuals who would like to participate in the mitzvah. Extending ownership to others will multiply the merits associated with this distinctive opportunity. The proceeds from the sale of shares will benefit Renewal, the organization that facilitated the owner’s transplant.

To partake in this unique mitzvah, go to http://www.pidyonchamor.org to learn how to become a shareholder. Join the initiative now – ownership must be assumed prior to the birth of the foals.
