Brazil Succeeds in Defying FM Appointment – Danny Dayan Will Not Serve as Ambassador

danThe Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee convened on Sunday, 28 Shevat, discussing Brazil’s tenacious objections to the appointment of Danny Dayan as the new Israeli ambassador to that country.

The appointment of Dayan as the next Israeli ambassador to Brazil was made in August 2015 but that country has refused to accept Dayan’s credentials due to his former ties as head of the Yesha Settlement Council.

It appears the consensus is that while Brazil’s behavior if worthy of condemnation, and perhaps more worrisome is that it may set a dangerous precedent, it appears clear to all concerned that Dayan it is highly unlikely that Brazil will reverse its position and welcome Dayan as the new Israeli ambassador.

Foreign Ministry Deputy Director of Latin American Affairs Moti Ephraim stated Israel is still waiting for a decision from the Brazilian government. It has been over six months. In accordance with The Hague Convention, Brazil has up to a year to submit an official response on the objectionable appointment. The question remains is if Israel will wait another half year of simply find another suitable appointment for Dayan and place another person in the vacant slot in Brazil.

  1. once Israel chose Dayan as its ambassador, he had what the Talmud calls a “zika” to that post. Since Brazil turned
him down they got a much worse zika. WHat a price to pay!!

  2. Israel should wait the 6 months.
meanwhile how about declaring the Brazilian ambassador persona non grata and let Brazil and its anti-Semite president find another person.
