The IDF Wants to Protect Yishuv Beit Choron And Part of Highway 443

chorFollowing the fatal terror attack in Beit Choron, which claimed the life of 24-year-old Shlumit Kreigman and left another resident wounded, the IDF feels it should assume responsibility for securing the community.

Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) reported on Thursday, 2 Adar I that following a combined IDF police investigation into the attack, the IDF recommends assuming responsibility for the community’s security as well as a portion of Highway 443, the Jerusalem-Modi’in Highway.

Israel Police backs the recommendation regarding Beit Choron as well as 443, which has become a focus for terror attacks in the past months. At present, border police are responsible for the community’s security, operating under the command of Israel Police.

The ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) has not yet closed its investigation into the Beit Choron attack. While much of the findings of the investigation remain classified, what is being reported is that one of the errors made is the creation of an opening in the separation fence in the area to accommodate a water line without placing security in the area.

Investigators believe changes will be required concerning Highway 443 in light of the deteriorating situation in that area.
