4Bar-Ilan University announces it has dismissed Dr. Oded Gaz, a member of the university’s physics department after the Supreme Chief Rabbinate Beis Din placed him in nidui for not giving his wife a get.

The university’s social media was abuzz against Dr. Gaz, decrying reports he has been withholding a get from his wife for some four years. The Supreme Beis Din released his name along with a photo, calling on the tzibur to distance him from anything to do with Yiddishkheit.

  1. “The university explains Gaz was also ousted from the Higher Torah Studies department and in a statement university officials explain they have cut all connection with him, not in business and not personally.”

    This needs editing.

  2. Never mind, figured it out. Here is the proper English for that statement: “They have cut all connection with him, whether business or personal.” Other variations can also work (“…including business and personal,” or just plain “business and personal”), but triple negatives? That is straight translation from Hebrew syntax (Lo zeh velo zeh) and is not English.

  3. I don’t know this guy from pickles but something tells me he left the country for New York. I never saw
him but his eyes give him away.
