Off-Duty NYPD Officer Stuck And Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver On NJ Turnpike

vinAn off-duty New York City police officer was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver following an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike.

State police say the two-vehicle accident occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday in a southbound lane in Elizabeth.

Officials say 25-year-old Vincent Harrison got out of one of the cars and was on the side of the highway when he was hit. Parked on the shoulder, Harrison exited his sedan. That’s when a 2008 Infiniti sped between the two halted vehicles, smashing into the cop, Spies said.

The Infiniti stopped briefly before it sped off from the scene.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New York Police Department says Harrison was assigned to the 100th Precinct in Queens. It wasn’t immediately clear if he was driving one the vehicles involved in the crash.

The driver of the car that hit the man fled the scene and has not been located.

The cause of the initial accident remains under investigation.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of our own, may you rest in peace P.O. Vincent Harrison,” the 100th Precinct tweeted Sunday morning.
