For The First Time, The Skverer Rebbe Will Light A Bonfire On Lag B’Omer In New Skvere

skverMany Skverer Chassidim are making plans as the news spreads of the Rebbe Shlita planning to light a Lag B’Omer medura (bonfire) at a central event in New Square.

It is reported that this is big news as in the past, this was not the minhag. Many a chassidus in out of Israel might light a smaller modest bonfire, primarily for the tenokos shel beis raban of talmidei torah and this is not customarily done in the presence of the rebbe.

Some chassidim explain the change stems from the rebbe lighting a medura at the tziyun of the Rashbi when he visited Eretz Yisrael in the winter, explaining when the rebbe saw the spirituality and hisorarus associated with the event, he decided to do the same in Skvere on Lag B’Omer.

The chassidus’ information line has reported to chassidim of the rebbe’s plans, marking the first time the rebbe will take part in such an event in New Square.

  1. It must be a slow news day in New Square if this is what triggers excitement among the Skver….on the other hand, its a lot more interesting than a lot of other stuff we’ve read about recently so perhaps it is “news”

  2. Or , perhaps, it’s to keep his chassidum from flying to eretz Yisroel. Thereby saving them lots of money and allowing them more time to learn instead of the many hours of Torah lost on this annual pilgrimage .
I know , I know. It’s a beautiful event that fills everyone with such ruchniyos. I’m just curious though. For all of you flying to EY, why don’t you go for the yartzeit of Rebbe, or Hillel or Rambam etc?

  3. The color of the socks are very important not to be changed. Therefore it is important to wear winter
    boots when it’s 95 degrees.
Making bonfires this old Minhag goes back to the times
of Terach but was dropped therefore it is only right to reintroduce it

  4. #5 I feel sarcasm in your comments. We don’t question daas Torah on bonfires and going to lehavdil the IDF (which daas Torah says not to).

  5. Veizt ois it’s a alte minhag introduced by the heilige arsonist who tried to burn Rotenberg’s house, and the heilige Rebbe is being mamshich the minhag.
