Lag Baomer Is A Cash Cow For Many Northern Residents And Yeshivos Renting Beds/Rooms

1Perhaps similar to Uman for Rosh Hashanah or 770 during Tishrei, locals have realized the influx of people creates potential for handsome profits and Meron during the Lag B’Omer week is no exception.

For many families, renting mattresses on the floor of their apartment generates a handsome income for the week, not to mention hotels and bed & breakfasts in the area of the tziyun. Needless to say the closer one is to the tziyun the more one is willing to pay.

A mattress on the floor alongside others will run NIS 150-250 per night. If one wishes to have shower rights too, the price will jump to NIS 350-500.

A tzimmer in the area is not a poor man’s option, ranging from NIS 1,500-4,500. Some prefer to simply rent a private bedroom, double occupancy, inside a home. That can run NIS 2,000-3,500.

While most travel by bus, spend a few hour and return home, many prefer to remain overnight or two or three; making the Rashbi Lag B’Omer experience a mini but costly retreat.

  1. Actually, these prices are a bargain compared to the closts of a round-trip flight and week’s accommodations at the homes of some of the world’s biggest anti-Semitim in Uman.

  2. As you mention this is profit for a week that helps some cover their bills for the year. Remember it’s ones’ choice to go and yes a big zechus. We B”H try to do our mitzvos in a mehudar way and some of these rentals are on Moshavim of local farmers who just were mekayim the mitzvah of Shmita! B”H for these people who go out of their way to make the stay for this very special day nice and as comfortable as possible. No one forces anyone to go to Miron or any Shabbos getaways which people choose to go to and put on their credit card bill because they need to go away and we should always be dan l’chaf zechus…. V’ahavta lreiacha kamocha!!! Enjoy!
