Knesset Votes To Grant Paternity Leave For Fathers

knesThe Knesset on Monday 20 Sivan passed a new bill into law that will grant six days of paternity leave to new fathers. The six days includes the day a child is born. The cost of the leave will be split, with three days coming from an employee’s sick days and the other three from vacation days.

While the employee uses his own time for the leave, before the bill was passed into law an employer was not compelled to grant the six days off and now, after voted into law, the employer must.

The bill was sponsored by Meretz MK Tamar Zandberg.

  1. Too bad they couldn’t give the fathers a full week so they might be able to take off from work for brisim…..it would be nice if they could stay home and spend some quality time with the mohel w/o having to run off to work after shachris.
