NYC Mayor’s Counsel Resigning to Lead Police Watchdog Agency

debA New York City attorney who serves as counsel to Mayor Bill de Blasio is resigning and will take a new job as the chairwoman of the city’s police watchdog agency.

The Democratic mayor said Wednesday that Maya Wiley will leave his administration July 15 to chair the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board.

She’ll also work as a professor and senior vice president at The New School.

In a statement, Wiley says she’s grateful to have worked for de Blasio.

The board’s former chairman, Richard Emery, resigned after the agency’s executive director accused him of using gender-based slur against her and undermining her authority.

The CCRB investigates claims of misconduct by police, but the NYPD has the final say on whether discipline is imposed.
