VIDEO: Lapid Insists: I Do Not Hate Chareidim

1Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid spoke with Kol Chai Radio host Mordechai Lavi on Thursday morning 22 Tammuz. Lapid stated emphatically that he does not hate chareidim, adding “I do not hate any Jews!”

Lavi was hostile during the interview, badgering Lapid over his performance as a senior cabinet minister in the last administration and his insistence that chareidi schools learn secular subjects.

Lapid added that Lavi was not conducting a fair interview, choosing to promote the “hate chareidim” mantra rather than discuss the issues at hand. Lapid added “many chareidim have approached me and they are pleased their children were going to learn secular studies. “The Vilna Gaon was a mathematical genius” he added.

Lavi asked Lapid if he does not hate chareidim as he says to be the case, why did his party put out a video after the cabinet voted to eliminate his administration’s regulation compelling chareidim to study secular studies. Why in the video released by Yesh Atid does it say “one million children will remain ignorant and we will have to support them as they are headed for a life of poverty”.

Lapid explained he already apologized to Deputy Minister Meir Porush, admitting his error, that the number is not one million as he was told. However, he told Lavi that the chareidim need to understand that not everyone who disagrees with them on an issue, major as it may be, hates them and it is time to change this way of thinking.

Lapid stated he still feels the chareidim should learn secular subjects for clearly, there is a growing number of chareidi poor and this is not opinion but fact, and this burden is becoming an increasingly significant one for the nation. Hence, he feels by depriving the children of the tools to earn a living is caring for them and not an action of one who hates them.

Lavi: Are you willing to take a polygraph to state you do not hate chareidim?

Lapid: Most definitely, with you there as well.

  1. I guess Lapid, with all his wonderful education that the Chareidim don’t have, never heard of the expression “Actions speak louder than words”. His words mean nothing. His actions say it all.
