Olympic Chief Addresses Anti-Israel Discrimination By Lebanon’s Team Leader

1The International Olympic Committee on Sunday 3 Menachem Av issued a stern warning to the head of the Lebanese delegation after the latter refused to share the same bus to the Rio Games opening with members of the Israeli team.

Salim al-Haj Nicola, who heads the Lebanese team, did not permit Israeli athletes onto the bus on Friday, Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av. At the end, the Israelis received a different vehicle to bring them to the stadium.

As for Salim, he was reprimanded and told such actions would not be tolerated. He called the incident a “misunderstanding”. Minister of Culture & Sport Miri Regev, who is attending the games, explained she hopes the same actions will be taken for any incident of anti-Semitism and exclusion of Israeli athletes.
