Female TV Presenter Who Was Attacked In Meah Shearim: I Understand Them

1Last week, YWN-ISRAEL reported that TV presenter Hila Korach was attacked in Meah Shearim despite being modestly dressed. She explained she did her best to dress properly as not to offend the residents of the community.

After the fact, she told Kol Berama Radio “I understand them and I am capable of understanding why they attacked. To state this was an attempted lynch would be somewhat of an exaggeration. It was most unpleasant. I was unaware Meah Shearim is a dangerous place”.

“Despite what occurred, we entered Meah Shearim to take photos for an archeological shoot and we never imagined it would come to this. Thirty people surrounded us and shouted at us to leave. It was extremely unpleasant” Korach stated, adding “little children in carriages were there too however, I must say that I have received a lot of feedback and comments about all the chareidim. I must say this is not all the chareidim, not even all the chareidim in Meah Shearim. There were some very nice people there, curious people who were cooperating with us”.

These attacks are a real threat and I understand them. They encounter the press in an unpleasant perspective. Some journalists and cameramen come to there like a zoo, coming to see how these different people live and their different lifestyle. I understand their opposition but I think that if they were more respectful it would appear differently”.

  1. I never understood how throwing stones at vehicles on shabbos in meah shearim and other very frum areas is mutter and throwing bleach on peoples clothing isnt that genayva??

  2. “I was unaware Meah Shearim is a dangerous place”

indeed? a terrible thing to say about frum yidden, that their area is dangerous, but it seems to be true, too, sadly enough…

  3. Its sad that a woman dressed in a tziniusdik manner or a chayal from the IDF seeking to say kadish with minyan is at greater risk of attack in Meah Sheaarim then he or she would be at some border crossing or on a road in Yehuda or Shomron. At some point, the security forces will have to use overpower force to detain and punish those yidden who would attack other yidden simply for walking on a public street in Yerushalayim. It takes nothing to provoke these idiots. Its boredom hatred, stupidity and intolerance which are the antithesis of yiddeshekeit.

  4. 1- They don’t throw stones.

2- As far as I know, the bleach-throwing stopped a long time ago

Both of the above are entirely forbidden by Jewish law.

I live in Jerusalem, wear a shaitle, and walk in Meah Shearim very often. I have never encountered any violence.

Reporters are not welcomed and should not be there. The violent ones are in the small minority but these reporters seemed to have attracted them. This does NOT justify violence, which is also a great chillul H-shem.
But don’t go looking for trouble, unless that was their objective, to start up with the locals.
