It is common for avreichim in Eretz Yisrael to receive purchase vouchers for a hat, suit and shirt before Rosh Hashanah and Pesach. However, ahead of this Rosh Hashanah, avreichim in the Migdal Ohr community headed by Rabbi Yechezkel Etrog are receiving a different kind of purchase voucher – one to buy a quality piece of jewelry for their wives. This brings Migdal Ohr onboard the growing trend of kollels who are issuing vouchers for the wives of the avreichim ahead of Yomtov.

According to a Kikar News report, the trend began last year in a Bnei Brak Kollel headed by philanthropist Dan Gertler, who distributed vouchers for gifts for wives of avreichim. This Rosh Hashanah the trend is spreading and in addition to the voucher, a letter to the wives pointing out their merit for permitting their husbands to continue learning, asking the women to be mispallel for continued economic success.

The letter explains the woman stands behind the avreich as an angel, who labors over his Torah study, comparing her to the wife of Rabbi Akiva.
